The mobile world is expanding in different directions, thanks to new ideas. The people at Dell are enjoying their own ideas in tablet technology. Plenty of other people are also enjoying their ideas. Discover some of the features of this seven inch android tablet from Dell with the code name of Looking Glass.

The Dell Streak was a five inch creation that had people wondering if it was a large smartphone or a small tablet. As such, it could be used either way. Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell, told the world it was the largest screen that could fit into a man’s shirt pocket. The seven inch model is probably going to be too big for most men’s shirt pocket though. The smaller Streak is already released in Europe.

At the recent Oracle Openworld, the seven inch android powered tablet was shown off by the CEO. It is going to be powered by the Android operating system, not the Microsoft Phone 7 model. The company has been growing similar to the size of the screens they are offering the world. If you remember, Dell passed up Hewlett-Packard to take the lead in computer sales a while back. Hewlett-Packard was the defacto leader until Dell came along.

Now Dell has moved into the mobile realm. The five inch Streak sports a very high resolution for its screen.

It is 480 by 800 pixels of power and even works well in direct sunlight. It is theorized that the seven inch model will have the same amount of pixels. This will make for a lesser amount of clarity. The Streak is equipped with phone hardware for making calls. There is no word on if the seven inch “Looking Glass” will be able to make calls or not. Samsung has made a tablet the same size as this Dell tablet that can make calls also, so it remains a possibility.

What will this seven inch android tablet be able to do? For now, it looks like it will run very fast. It is said to be sporting a NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and android 2.1. It will need to be upgraded to android 2.2. Some of the impressive speed will be attributed to the large amount of RAM that Dell is giving this tablet.

The other area of speed will be the upgrade to android 2.2, which has been tested to run four times faster on other smartphones. The android system does not have nearly as many apps ( applications ) available as say, the iPhone, but they are also cheaper. There is some evidence that the prices of iPhone apps are going down. Android has around 130,000 apps available, including the popular google goggles, the app that identifies what you are taking photos of.

There is no firm release date yet for the seven inch Dell tablet. All Dell could say is that it is going to be sold in Best Buy stores soon. Some say that will be November. No prices are yet announced.
