The Samsung has launched a television remote control for those who want to “point and click” with their smartphone. It works with those who have an Apple iPhone or those who have an Android device. Read on to find out more about a convenient way to chuck your old TV remote control in the trash.
If you have had an iPhone for awhile you may be using it tonight to flip through the Superbowl using the Samsung TV remote control. This is a free downloadable app not just for an iPhone, but for the iPod touch and iPad tablet owners. The app looks good with a high quality attention to graphics, much better than a manual remote control. The buttons are made to look like metal buttons that would be on a physical TV remote control.
The Samsung app allows the use of gesture controls as well as the normal touch screen operation. The gesture manner of operation involves up, down, left, right movement and controls channel or volume. There are other ways to control what happens on the TV screen with this app. Use of a keyboard is available for those who like typing in commands. This is an easy way to input letters with this part of the remote control. A game remote control is also included for a user interface for video games.
At the moment, this Samsung TV remote app will work with televisions that have internet@TV 2010. ( The model code is “C”. )
Another prerequisite is that the television will need to be able to use Wi-Fi. If the television does not have this feature, it is possible to buy a USB dongle for it and go from there. Make sure your Samsung television has a USB connector if you want to add a dongle. If not, no dice. A last suggestion is to make sure you have room on the hard drive of your iPhone or other iDevice. The app is a largish six megabytes in size. The app requires that the Apple product have iOS 3.1.2 or later.
What about the Android Samsung TV remote control app ? It is laid out a little differently, with the channel number buttons on the top instead of on the bottom like a regular manual remote control. This is a newer release and has been downloaded by fewer people than the Apple version. One of the things that people do not like about this app is that it will only work on Samsung phones. The Nexus S is actually a phone made by Samsung with a Google moniker. This app will not work with that phone. Other smartphones that this app will work with are the Galaxy S series and the recent tablet from Samsung, the Galaxy Tab. The S series includes the Continuum, Epic 4G, Fascinate ( Mesmerize ), Captivate and the Vibrant.
The Android app Samsung TV remote control will work with LCD C650 series and newer, LED C6500 versions and newer and Plasma C6500 series. Smart televisions are also included on the list of compatible receivers. There is no information on whether or not the Android app version will handle gesture controls. This is getting to be a popular feature, as software is now able to understand hand movements. At the moment this seems to be the future of television control. The old manual remote control may be going the way of the dinosaur soon. Whichever type of phone you may have, Android based or an Apple product, this remote control app is priced right. It is free.
